Testimonials

I come back to Belmullet every year for festival week. Its a great time to catch up with friends and family and there’s always so many events on that my week is always jam packed. I love all the live music and the traditional dancing in the street. I look forward to it every year and can’t wait till August rolls around.

We brought the kids away for a week last August to Belmullet and they absolutely loved every minute of it. There was so many family events and activities for the kids to see and do and the place is so beautiful with its never ending beaches. We enjoyed our stay so much that we have already decided that were coming back again this year for the festival week.

Travelling the Wild Atlantic Way around Ireland, we took a wrong turn and ended up in Belmullet and I’m so glad we did. There was a heritage festival on when we arrived exhibiting old Ireland with all the traditional crafts and stalls. The locals were so welcoming and it such a beautiful place, that we decided to stay an extra couple of days and take in the rest of the festival. Wonderful memories!

About

A traditional fair day has been held in Belmullet on the 15th of August for as long as the locals can remember. Every year, stalls and markets can be found all over the town and the streets overflow with people.

The annual Belmullet Festival is organised around Lá an Logha (day of indulgence) and over the years, has developed into a wonderful week of entertainment and activities for children and families. Lá an Logha is a great time to meet returning emigrants and new visitors and there’s plenty of market stalls to enjoy throughout the day.

Heritage Day on the 10th of August has become a very popular day, with people walking amongst the street stalls to enjoy the traditional crafts and skills on display with prizes for best dressed individuals and groups.

There will be busking, pig racing, traditional Irish music and dancing and much much more. This year’s festival runs from 8th of August to the 18th of August .

Worthy Cause

The Belmullet festival is organised each year by a committee, who volunteer their time to pull it all together. If you are lucky enough to attend this year you will see the army of volunteers that make the festival possible. You will also benefit from the fundraising done throughout the year to raise the funds to make it all happen.

The community always give generously and each year the local businesses also sponsor the festival – these sponsors are listed here. We would like to thank the local community, Mayo County Council and Padraig Brogan for all the help and support they give each year, without them the festival would not be possible.

Also a special thank you to:

Ian Mc Andrew Aras Inis Gluaire, Brian Mac Suibhne Kilmore RSS and Sean Carey Belmullet RSS

If you are interested in becoming involved in the committee please get in touch or if you would like to sponsor the festival or any event you can donate here.
