“In association with Belmullet and Ballina Dramatic Societies, KEEPSAKETHEATRE presents, the critically-acclaimed Famine play ‘Welcome to the Stranger‘.”
Described by the Western People as “A LANDMARK PLAY”, ‘Welcome to the Stranger’ recounts the extraordinary journey of an American woman, Asenath Nicholson, who witnessed the ravages of the Famine in Mayo and left an unflinching account of her experience.
For this unique production featuring 18 local actors, playwright Rua Breathnach and Belgian director Rémi Beelprez have created an epic play that casts new light on the most traumatic event in modern Irish history. Following a very successful run at Ballina Arts Centre and Westport Town Hall Theatre earlier this year, ‘Welcome to the Stranger’ runs for two nights only at Áras Inis Gluaire.
